Adult Activities in Bangkok
Bangkok’s famous adult nightlife has drawn individuals and adventurous couples for decades, and today thrives prominently in three locations: Patpong Road, the Nana Entertainment Plaza, and Soi Cowboy.
Here is a quick guide, and a few tips you will want to keep in mind.
Patpong Road
Patpong, between Suriwong and Silom, just north of the Sala Daeng Skytrain station, was Bangkok’s first entertainment zone. Today, it’s chock-a-block with touts, and the street itself is crowded with the stalls of Patpong’s unspectacular Night Market. There is at least one notable lady boy bar here (King’s Castle 3) whose dancers rival, in looks, the most dazzling performers in any ladyboy show in Thailand.
Warning: Second story venues on Patpong have a dodgy reputation for overcharging. If you venture to one of these spots, we urge you to ask prices for both your drinks and “lady drinks” in advance of being seated, check your bill after every round, and be meticulous about counting your change.
Soi Cowboy
Soi Cowboy, on Sukhumvit Soi 21, is across the street from the BTS Asok Skytrain station. Here, you’ll find one block crowded with bars. Most of the dancers on Soi Cowboy are from the Isaan north, and the friendly familial banter you’ll hear among the ladies is because in most bars, many are from the same village. In Soi Cowboy, it’s not uncommon for sisters, cousins, aunts, and brothers all to be working in the same bar. Here, rip-offs are rare, and the overall environment is less intense than in Patpong.
Nana Entertainment Plaza
Nana Entertainment Plaza, on Sukhumvit Soi 4 just west of the Nana Skytrain station, is a three-story mega-complex, full of dancing bars, beer bars, stairway hair salons, and food stalls.
Many Nana establishments feature floorshows, where costumes, props, and lighting effects create a “son et lumière” of the adult world.
Keep in mind ...
Caveat Emptor Dept: Prostitution is illegal in Thailand.
While uncommon, occasional police visits to clubs do occur, therefore we encourage all patrons to carry passports with them, to conform to Thai law.
It is not illegal for you to be a patron at a go-go bar.
If you do choose to have a lady accompany you to a venue outside of her club, the bar will charge you a “bar fine,” generally 400-600 baht.
If you choose to engage the lady in something beyond a tête à tête, she is not allowed to charge you for the experience. Rather, you’ll be expected to tip her for her time. We recommend you discuss this with her in advance.
Ladyboys are to be treated as ladies.
If you discover your companion is not what you thought, everyone will appreciate your politeness and observation of decorum if you keep to your original agreement, even if you choose not to further enjoy her company.
Conversations with ladyboys can be fascinating, incidentally, and may well give you a perspective on Thai culture that you’ll not find elsewhere.
Thai Oasis does not advocate engaging in illegal activity while in Thailand. Remember to respect both the ladies and the police, who are ultimately there to protect you. Always count your change, be aware of your surroundings, and, in case of misunderstandings, be polite and smile, the best way to resolve conflict in Thailand.
