the Andaman’s newest adventure spot

Despite the recent devastation wrought by the December tsunami, Thailand has pledged to rebuild Khao Lak. For those who lost loved ones and property in this recent tragedy, we have kept this page as a snapshot of the way things were before the event, and wish them luck with their new endeavors. We will be posting new information about Khao Lak as the rebuilding continues.

Khao Lak is the name of both a very pretty beach and a national park, located adjacent to each other, in the province of Pha-Ngan, one hour north of Phuket airport, and two hours north of Phuket town.

In KhaoLak/Lam Ru National Park, wildlife such as Asiatic black bears and gibbons are common, treks can be arranged accompanied by a warden, and long-tail boat trips can be taken up the estuary. There’s also a large coral reef here, with scuba trips to local spots, as well as multi-day opportunities to the Similan and Surin Islands.
